The benefits of Smart Grid are varied and far-reaching and are above and beyond capturing energy losses and consumer conservation.
Smart Grid promises a genuine revolution in the way the electrical power supply chain operates, in that it enables many new sources of generation capacity to help consumers and industries power the grid.
Renewable energy sources can be used to power the grid – such as solar panels and wind turbines.
These energy sources (such as wind and solar power) can easily support the ease of management of new sources in order to support the telecommunications technologies used for Smart Grid.
It is also recognized that Smart Grid will facilitate other profound changes – not the least of which is the integration and management of new generation sources largely based on renewable energy.
Without Smart Grid, our society’s transformation to a green-friendly approach to energy generation and consumption will not be realized.
